League of Legends
10 Year european celebrations

Key Roles: Creative Direction, Experience Design, Motion Design.

Working from concept to realisation, I was creative lead on bringing the L10 European event to life in the London ExCeL Centre.

Alongside lighting, experiential and sound design, broadcast teams and the European team at Riot, we built a fully immersive world to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the League of Legends, connecting fans and the Riot team.

The world of Runeterra through design and excitement

A wealth of fan art, characters, locations and music, accessed through a portal, which blurred the boundaries of reality, were key to creating this world inside the London ExCeL. We created a seamless transition from one aircraft size hangar to Runeterra.

From storytelling to hot dogs

Working alongside choreographers, environment, and lighting design, the event was forged around bringing dedicated players into the world of Runeterra. Starting from a mystical portal using cutting edge transparent LED pannelling and lighting trickery, we transported fans into the world of League of Legends.

A portal and fully choreographed entrance triggered the transportation to Runeterra and was broadcast live to the world via Twitch. Fans experienced a full day of immersion with on stage entertainment (hosted by Julia Hardy), interviews and hands-on gaming on over 500 LAN gaming PC’s. They also enjoyed hidden testing facilities for new releases within the build and streaming booths provided for professional streamers onsite.

Live actors in cosplay roamed the event and acts on stage provided post live stream entertainment. Food, drinks and names were all inspired by characters and settings from within the Runeterra world. At the centre of the event was fans and Riot employees getting to play alongside each other, which provided a unique fan experience.
